Extraordinary Means

Hey everyone,
Ever get that mushy feeling in you where you know a book is really cheesy yet you want to read it anyway? Well that is the feeling I got from "Extraordinary Means" by Robyn Schneider. This book seems to attract people who enjoyed "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. I confess that I cannot make that assumption as I have not read it. I will probably read it sometime and then give my overall opinion.

Of course some of you may like to just turn away now if this kind of genre doesn't appeal to you. To those who enjoy doomed teenage romance, please read on.

In this story, 17 year old Lane has recently been diagnosed with incurable tuberculosis. He is moved from all he knows and is forced to live in a very depressing sanatorium called Latham. Now given a completely new schedule he is forced to relax and just "get better" as all the doctors say. Lane isn't one to sit back and let his future just sort itself out. He is a straight A-student in all his advanced classes, shoe in for valedictorian, president of his "Carbon Footprint Awareness" club and to top it all off he had a fellow straight As. He was living the dream, until his scan in the hospital. His whole life changed in that moment.

Now moved all the way from his home to the middle of nowhere, Lane is determined to get better and back to his normal life. He tries to stay with his studies but Latham believe in its residents getting better above all else, including studying.

Lane soon meets Sadie, a girl who is much too enthusiastic, for his liking, to be sick. She has been at Latham for around a year and has discovered that just because she is sick does not mean that she cannot continue to be rebellious teenager. Sadie and Lane are total opposites, however Lane soon discovers that at Latham, he can be anything he wants to be.

Maybe being sick was actually a wake up call for Lane to live in the present and not spend his time planning out his future.

This actually a trailer for this book. I discovered it just the other day. I feel like the trailer doesn't do the book justice but that is one person's opinion. The trailer is below so check it out! I found it on Robyn Schneider's youtube account so go and subscribe to her to find out about new books if you liked this one!

I loved this story. It has a good moral even though it is mostly about sick teenagers. It is a bit depressing but has loads of humour all throughout the book. Extraordinary Means is also £5.59 on Amazon.co.uk so it costs the same as "The Rest of Us Just Live Here". If you haven't read that post then I strongly advise you do so as they are both incredible books! Amazon.co.uk rated this book with 4.5 stars so to me it is a definite read!

I hope you enjoy "Extraordinary Means" and I'll see you all later,

The Rest of Us Just Live Here

Hey again,

So this week I'm going to talk about "The Rest Of Us Just Live Here" by Patrick Ness. Some of you may know Patrick Ness from his Bestselling books "The Chaos Walking" series. I have not actually finished the first book but I really like it so far. So I recommend those ones as well.

"The Rest Of Us Just Live Here" is a story about a senior in High school called Mikey, a completely normal kid who lives in a town where nothing is normal. Mikey suffers from what the readers assume as an anxiety disorder, causing him to continuously count the edges of anything he has in front of him that have sides. He counts these continuously as his way of coping and calming down, like other people count to 10. Mikey is the only boy in his family with two sisters, Mel, a repeat student and Meredith, the fiction version a 1Directioner. Together with his best friend Jared, descendant of the mountain lion goddess and Henna, the unrequited love of his life, Mikey and his friends try to make it to graduation alive, and preferably with the school still intact.

In all honesty, I finished this book much faster than any other, including Harry Potter. I was hooked after the first paragraph. The book opens every chapter with what is going on around Mikey, this includes all the weird supernatural stuff that all the "Indie kids" are involved with. You know those super hero movies, like the Avengers, well the people who are just standing around while the super heroes actually do all the work, that is what this book is all about. People who have no idea what is going on around them.

I'm quite bad when it comes to judging a book. I read the blurb and the first page and make a decision then to see if I want to continue reading it. I also go online to see the reviews, like you do when wanting to check out a movie. Goodreads is one of the most reliable (well to me anyway)book reviewing sites I have come across. I also use it to check out any new books that I may like. According to Goodreads, The Rest of Us Just Live Here was rated at 3.8/5. that is quite good. Again I am very judgy so anything that is under 3, I will not read. I also use Amazon.co.uk as I order most of books from there. Amazon gave it 4 stars and I quite agree with that. It was an amazing book. The book is priced at £5.59 which is around 7.50 euro.

Well that's all today!I hope you enjoy the book!

Me, Myself and Books!

Hey everyone, my name is Caitriona. I am here today to talk about my love for books. As a teenager I like to spend most of my time in bookshops or libraries. My interest in certain genres vary from mystery to fantasy, romance to horror. Really just a huge variety. My blog will be about certain books that I have read, how their authors came up with the story and also where to look for these books. Some books will be classics because I feel that they need to written about because... well they are just that good. Some may be newly released books, others may have been out for a while. I will also give my overall opinion on them at the end. Hope you enjoy!

Yours,

Cait
